Emergency Relief & Rehabilitation Services
Providing critical relief and rehabilitation services in times of crisis and disaster.
NCCT carries out various emergency and rehabilitation efforts during critical times of need. From responding to local emergencies in Canada to providing essential relief in the Tamil homeland, NCCT mobilizes resources and volunteers to support those most affected by crises.
COVID-19 Pandemic Response
During the COVID-19 pandemic, NCCT was involved in donating personal protective equipment, delivering catered meals to first responders, and spearheading awareness and education to fight the spread. During this unprecedented time, NCCT prioritized supporting mental health and wellness by developing, coordinating and hosting COVID-19 panel discussions with multidisciplinary stakeholders virtually via its social media channels.
Topics of discussion included coping with emotions during the pandemic, navigating virtual work environments during the pandemic, impact of COVID on elementary school students, high school students and university students, as well as the changing roles of parents and teachers. These multiple panel discussions focused on educating and empowering the community about mental health issues, resilience strategies and self-care practices.
Domestic Emergency Relief
During power outages around the Greater Toronto Area, NCCT led the efforts of collecting food supplies from the Tamil Canadian community to help support people who were stranded. During the Fort McMurray wildfire in Alberta, NCCT was also involved in raising and donating funds to the Canadian Red Cross for those impacted.
Homeland Relief & Rehabilitation
NCCT’s rehabilitation and emergency relief in the Tamil homeland includes providing flood relief and essential products to flood-stricken people, supporting projects related to recovery, sustainability, education of children and empowerment of women in the North and East of Sri Lanka as a result of the Tamil Genocide.
